How does an IPL Photo Facial work?

During an IPL session, the Rohrer Spectrum device precisely delivers pulses of light, increasing the skin’s production of collagen for a smoother, suppler appearance. With quick and powerful flashes of light. The light energy then penetrates below the skin’s surface, where the unwanted brown pigment lives. The heat breaks down this pigment into tiny particles, which either rise to the skin’s surface or naturally slough away.

What to Expect?

IPL treatments, performed in our Honolulu office, require approximately 45 minutes to complete. IPL photo facial is easier and more comfortable than more invasive surgical procedures for minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and common skin imperfections. Treatments feel a little like a rubber band being snapped on your skin; anesthesia isn’t required.

After your treatment:

• Redness lasts for two to five days
• Bruising may last up to two weeks
• Darkened age spots or freckles can last for three to seven days
• Crusting may last up to 10 days
• Treated areas may appear red after the procedure
• Avoid sun exposure one week before and after treatment
• Stop usage of retinoids three to five days before your procedure and seven days after

Skin will appear flushed immediately after treatment and capillaries may be more visible. Age spots may also appear slightly darker for a few days after the first treatment. These changes will diminish gradually, however. You will see visible improvement after each treatment. Many people see an improvement after their first IPL treatment.

Avoid tanning before and after photorejuvenation treatments as tanning will enhance uneven skin color.

How many IPL Photo Facial treatments do I need?

Younger-looking skin is easier than you think with IPL photo facials. In just one treatment you can have a more youthful-looking appearance with improved tone and texture of your skin. Typically we recommend a series of 4 treatments spaced 1 month apart for the most beneficial results.
